Student Loan Forgiveness Programs by State
Did you know that most states have their own "special" student loan forgiveness programs? Forty-seven states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico all have special student loan forgiveness programs for residents of their states.
These plans are different than the federal programs you've probably heard of - like Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
Many of the programs are in public service fields, such as health care, teaching, dentistry, legal, and more. They all require some type of commitment and are run through various state programs and offices.

Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Programs - There are a lot of different Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Programs that you may qualify for.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) - This is one of the "best" student loan forgiveness programs that provides complete, tax-free, loan forgiveness after working in public service for 10 years.
For-Profit College Loan Forgiveness - If you attended one of these 150+ colleges and schools, you may be eligible for student loan forgiveness.

Here's a breakdown of all the programs that are offered by various states. We try to keep this list updated, but we welcome help from government and state officials that have knowledge of policy changes. Sadly, over the last several years, we've seen more states discontinue student loan forgiveness programs.
Alabama - Alabama currently offers one student loan forgiveness program.
Alaska - Alaska currently has one program.
Arizona - Arizona currently has three programs.
Arkansas - Arkansas currently has two programs.
California - California currently has three forgiveness programs.
Colorado - Colorado currently has three forgiveness programs.
Connecticut - Connecticut has seven loan forgiveness programs on the books, but only one is currently being funded by the legislature.
Delaware - Delaware currently has one student loan forgiveness program.
Florida - Florida currently has two student loan forgiveness programs.
Georgia - Georgia currently has one student loan forgiveness program.
Hawaii - Hawaii currently has one student loan forgiveness program.
Idaho - Idaho currently has one student loan forgiveness program.
Illinois - Illinois currently has four student loan forgiveness programs.
Indiana - Indiana currently has one student loan forgiveness program.
Iowa - Iowa currently has six student loan forgiveness programs.
Kansas - Kansas currently has three student loan forgiveness programs.

Wisconsin - Wisconsin currently has one student loan forgiveness program.
